About Us
Our club isn’t nearly as old as our university, but even we’ve already existed for 50 years. The scientific student club ”Jean Baptiste de Lamarck” was and is concerned about the encouragement of biological field work among students. The club offers field trips and biological mappings of any kind with like-minded people. There is also the opportunity to exchange experiences at the club evenings that take place regularly.
Everyone is free to work in the club. There is neither a membership nor peer pressure – and no membership fee. Every year the executive committee is elected by everyone present. The executive committee – in collaboration with all club “members” – takes over important duties as:

The club lives because of the voluntary work of its “members” and the interest to belong to the community. Our outward signs are the club banner and the burgee, which accompany us to all field trips.
The Lamarck club, as a part of the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-university is guided by a scientific tutor.
From our history
The student club was founded in December 1953 under the aegis of Professor Werner Rothmaler. Also the name was suggested by him.
